It is almost Dietitian Day

March 9th is National Dietitian Day!

From ADA: Registered Dietitian Day was created by the American Dietetic Association to increase the awareness of registered dietitians as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and to recognize RDs for their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives. Registered Dietitian Day and National Nutrition Month® promote ADA and RDs to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information.

So I thought we could do an Ask an RD Day here. Ask me anything and I will try to answer. Nutrition recommendations, research, questions about your intake, etc. Anything you want! If I don't know, I'll research it. You can leave me a comment or email me at confessionsofadietitian@gmail.com. I'll post answers this week!

What vitamins totally work? Which ones are more of the "cross your fingers" kind?

How bad are occasional (less than once a week) cheat meals for health?

How much protein does a person really need? How much water?

Ooh, great idea!

I second Rose for starters: what vitamins are worth the money (especially as a vegan)

Also, what's the big deal surrounding soy products? Lots of people gesture at "research" and the ill effects of eating too much isolated soy protein, but I've never read concrete research or evidence about it.

Thanks!

Okay, re: vitamins: Are all multis created equally, like, store brand versus name brand versus gummi versus "for women."

Oh, also (since I don't eat dairy): Best way to supplement my calcium via vitamins. I know that different calcium things have calcium from different sources. Does it matter?

And then, the supplements. Are there any that are, I guess not "proven," but mostly likely to be beneficial? Like, ginko biloba? Am I throwing money away, or are the odds good that it will improve my memory. Etc.
